Andy Rubal's musical journey traces back to the vibrant island of Cuba, where at the age of 6, he took center stage as a singer with the sensation group Baby Salsa. After years of touring across the island, Andy shifted gears to delve into classical piano, earning a composition bachelor's degree from the Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana in 2013. Alongside his studies, he showcased his piano prowess as a musical director for singer Waldo Mendoza and toured Europe and the United States with Latin- jazz flutist Orlando Valle, also known as "Maraca."
Andy's talents extended to arranging for artists like Raul Paz, Juan Guillermo (JG), Semino Rossi, and Gabriel Tchiema. In 2016, Andy Rubal unveiled his debut album, "El que Busca Encuentra," under the prestigious EGREM label (Buena Vista Social Club, Los Van Van). The album garnered a nomination at the Cuba Disco Awards for Best Salsa Album by a New Artist in 2017.
A pivotal chapter in Andy's life unfolded with his immigration to Montreal, Quebec, where he seamlessly integrated into the local music scene; gracing esteemed venues including the Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill, Maison du Jazz de Laval, and the 2023 Festival Nuits d’Afrique. His track "Moi Ton Roi," a duet with Florence K, released in March 2022, preceded a captivating 5-song EP titled “75°”. One of Andy's standout hits, "Enamorado en Montreal," from his debut album, has become a sensation within the salsa dancing community, accumulating over 12k streams and Shazams worldwide.
Now, in 2024, Andy Rubal is on the brink of unleashing a highly anticipated new salsa album showcasing the rhythmic influences of his Cuban roots and his enriching experiences since immigrating to Montreal. Get ready for the musical enchantment that's set to unfold later this year.
