Andy Rubal is a singer-songwriter, pianist, and arranger. His music with its lively rhythms reminds us of his native land, Cuba. He has been active on the music scene since childhood starting with the group Baby Salsa, which was very popular on the island at the time. He performed with the group for three years, and the experience forged his passion for music. He studied classical piano and obtained a bachelor's degree in classical composition from the prestigious Instituto Superior de Arte de La Habana in 2013. He worked as a pianist and musical director for singer Waldo Mendoza and toured in Europe and the United States with Latin-jazz flutist Orlando Valle "Maraca". He also worked as a musical arranger for artists such as Raul Paz, Juan Guillermo (JG) and Gabriel Tchiema. His first album, El que Busca Encuentra, was released with the famed Buena Vista Social Club label, EGREM, and received a nomination at the Cuba Disco Awards in the category of "Best Salsa Album for a New Artist" (2017).
His path led him north to Montreal, and his career continued with the launch of two titles in 2021: "El Pilón de Amélie" and "Estoy Casado" featuring rapper Boogát. That same year, he took part in a double bill with Lengaïa Salsa Brava in the event "Norté Tropical" at the National Theatre to rave reviews. His latest single "Moi, ton roi", features none other than Florence K. The obvious chemistry between the two artists led to an invitation to perform together in the Ad litteram production "Nos Classiques Revisités". The performance was held at the Paradoxe Theatre in front of a visibly delighted audience. To witness Andy perform is to understand the magnitude of his virtuosity. Through performances at local venues such as the Upstairs Jazz bar & grill, the Maison du Jazz de Laval, La Casona and the Casino de Montréal, the public is clearly concluding that Andy is a presence in Latin Music that is here to stay. His first EP, 75°, which was produced entirely in Canada is available since May 2022.
